What We’ve
Been Listening To

The Wonders of Nara with Tokiko Ihara
Nara, Japan
Moments of tender listening in an ancient temple of Nara, the sounds of Tokiko Ihara’s luminous shō bringing us back to our earthly senses, presence. Tokiko Ihara shared with us the wonders of Nara, live through sound in Yamato, JP.
A Journey from Oaxaca to Chiapas in the South of Mexico
Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico
Migrating sounds, voices, rattles, wandering from one sound vista to another, with moments of music discovered in between. Victor Esther Garcia took us on a journey that elapsed between Juchitán de Zaragoza in The Isthmus of Tehuantepec (Oaxaca) and Toniná (Chiapas) in the south of Mexico.
A Week with the Sheep at Whetstone Farm
Amery, WI
The patter of tiny hooves, a rustle in the hay, gravel crunching underfoot. We lived among the kind folks and sheep at Whetstone Farm as some tended to their cornucopia of vegetables and others grazed the rolling pastures.
A Weekend with Angel Bat Dawid
Angel’s home in Chicago, IL
Memories of falling in love with music, spontaneous melodies on her clarinet, songs for the listeners. Spiritual jazz soothsayer Angel Bat Dawid guided us on a journey each new day, live from her home in Chicago’s South Side.
A Couple Days with Beverly Glenn-Copeland
Glenn’s living room in Nova Scotia, CA
Poems with his long-time collaborator and partner Elizabeth, “Keyboard Fantasies,” laughs, unreleased songs, and spontaneous appearances from their cat Mew Mew. The ever-wonderful Beverly Glenn-Copeland invited us to join him for a couple days at his home in Nova Scotia.
A Weekend with Don Bryant and Ann Peebles
Memphis, TN
Rain, a collaboration as old as love, the sounds of Memphis soul, and of course records from the 70s. For a rare and special occasion, soul royalty Don Bryant and Ann Peebles shared songs and stories, live from the studio in Memphis, TN.
A Journey through the Southern Coast of Iceland
Iceland
The slow dripping sounds of ice melting in a cave, a volcano erupting with lava 900 feet in the sky, a storm passing the Dyrhólaey Lighthouse. Örvar Smárason and his wonderful friends took us to listen to the sounds of Iceland outside all along the southern coast.
The Summer at The Kaaterskills Animal Sanctuary
Catskills, NY
The rhythms of the day as animals rustle and rouse with the sun, and settle and mew as dusk dims and the gentle sounds of sleep fall on the hushed countryside. Our live soundtrack for summer, with the animals in an open air farm in Catskills, NY.
Sunsets with Laraaji
Laraaji’s home in Harlem, NY
A deep cosmic tone baptism, laughter, a zither and hammered dulcimer. We shared countless sunsets with Laraaji, live from his home in Harlem, NY.
A Weekend with Marjorie Eliot
Marjorie’s jazz parlor in Sugar Hill, NY
Words to nourish the soul, an afternoon shared beside her piano, songs and collaboration, always in memory of her sons. Marjorie Eliot welcomed us to join her and her son Rudel Drears, live in her jazz parlor in Sugar Hill, NY.

Felt like a prayer I didn’t even know I had been praying for was granted.

I loved the freshness of the moment... One of this year’s true highlights.

From Our Preview Listeners
A Physical Sound
This is the heart of it: the soundboard.
We've spent three years tuning this piece of wood
Resonant
Music radiates from a resonant wood panel, just like the body of a cello. Cascading sound like the light from a chandelier.
Physical
You can almost touch the sound. Stereoscopic vocals, piano, strings and brass with uncanny presence, clarity and warmth.
Dimensional
A sound that’s dimensional. A sound that makes it feel like the artist is just inches away from you.
The shift in quality and texture in the audio was notable [...] it sounded like Laraaji was actually in the room
The Quietus
...a crisp, realistic sound energy that mimics a live performance, right down to the slight imperfections of the instruments...
Billboard
...disturbingly intimate…

Built Like an Instrument
Oda's Secret to Unique and Beautiful Sound
Oda Speakers are built using techniques drawn from traditional crafts like bookbinding, light aircraft construction, and, of course, luthiery.
They’re made of wood, glass, cotton, and steel: materials that are humble and human, not technological.
Simply put: They're built like instruments, so they make instruments sound beautiful.
Painstakingly Tuned

The Intuition of an Artist
Oda’s designer, Perry Brandston, grew up in New York institutions like CBGB and Carnegie Hall. He has been making speakers most of his life. Conceived and designed in the East Village of Manhattan, we have been perfecting these speakers since 2016.
Ben in the anechoic chamber at University of Dresden
Transformed by a Leading Acoustician
Benjamin Zenker of the University of Dresden, a world-leading acoustician, transformed the speakers into something worthy of our mission; music that is live for the artist and for you. His design rejects heavy audio filters and brings listeners an honest experience.
A Sustainable Platform
We're working to create a platform that's sustainable. That's a viable long-term business for us, and for the artists you love.
We sell our speakers at a very low markup. Most of our income comes from our $79/season membership, and over 70% of that income goes directly to pay artists and production costs.
We are completely membership supported. We don't sell ads, we don't sell your data, and we don't spy on you.
We Made Oda Because We Love Music More Than Anything Else In The World
The Oda offices
We really do. Most of us have spent our professional lives working with artists and sound. Live music is a vital part of our lives, and we want it to be a vital part of yours. We believe all of us should be doing our part to preserve the cultural value of music.
